San Miguel has twice-beat advantage
The PBA Governors Cup 2022 finals will feature Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Meralco Bolts. These two teams will face each other in a best-of-seven series. If the two win, they will play a rubber match. If they tie, one team will advance.
If the Beermen beat Tropang Giga, the Beermen will remain in third place. The Beermen’s inferior quotient will be reflected in the final seed. They have a minus-10 differential. This is in contrast with the quotients of the other two teams.
It will be interesting to see if the Beermen can reclaim their title. While they have a chance, they can’t take advantage of the twice-to-beat edge.
Aside from the Beermen, two other teams are vying for the remaining four playoff spots. The Road Warriors and Blackwater are both winless. In fact, the Beermen have not won a game against the Bolts in the playoffs. However, if they defeat them, they will have the opportunity to regain their spot in the quarterfinals.
If they lose, however, the Beermen will fall to sixth place. That will mean they will have to beat both TNT and Batang Pier to advance.
In the meantime, the TNT and Tropang Giga will be looking to win their games against the NorthPort Batang Pier and Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters. Each team has the chance to take the second slot in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, NLEX is riding a five-game winning streak. However, they are also in the elimination round. Their records are currently unreliable.
Meralco’s game against Phoenix was a huge win for the Bolts. Tony Bishop scored 32 points and had a total of 16 rebounds. He also led the team in the first half with his four assists.
With the ten-day break coming up, it will be interesting to watch how the players and coaches of these squads handle their final push for the PBA Governors Cup. After all, the competition will be intense until April.
Hopefully, they will be able to do just that. But if not, they will have to settle for the fifth seed.

The PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) has a venerable history dating back to the early noughties. In recent years, the league has seen a surge in interest among Filipinos of all ages and income levels, thanks in no small part to the country’s booming tourist industry. Aside from its rich cultural history, the league boasts a formidable roster that is second to none in terms of talent and experience. Its marquee players include superstars June Mar Fajardo and Roger Pogoy, as well as veteran point guard Jerrick McKay and up and coming wingman John Mayer. But where does this talented group fit in the larger picture?
One of the most compelling questions of all is what will the future hold for the league? Despite a slew of mediocre seasons in recent memory, the organization remains competitive in the competition for fans’ dollars and beers. Whether or not it can repeat its best years is another story, but the team is in a good place to try to reclaim its title as the best of the bunch.
For starters, there are only a limited number of games to choose from. There are three matches set for play on the 18th of the month, including a pair of romps against a rival and an aforementioned rival. As for the playoffs themselves, there is no lock in the door courtesy of a surprisingly high seed. The competition is narrow, with only the top eight teams competing for a berth. All of the matchups are best of seven matches, making for some of the most exciting basketball in the metropolis.
To round out the picture, there are a handful of high-stakes contenders that are vying for the top spot, which includes the formidable Magnolia Hotshots, the storied Grizzlys and the snarky but mighty TNT Dragons. Depending on the final score of the day, one of these four teams will be celebrating a trophy case well into the new year. That’s good news for fans and punters alike.
